I'll be sending out some info and signup detail the week of January 13th. Don't want to run alone in the virtual world? NUTRITION & HYDRATION TIPS
How often are you training your hydration & nutrition plan?
We certainly hear a lot about training for your event/race, getting some race type specific training in the third block of your plan however, how many of us are actively training our hydration & nutrition plan for that same race?!
When I work with athletes 1:1, we chat about hydration & nutrition if not in the discovery meeting, we chat about in the onboarding meeting. They get asked weekly how their nutrition & hydration is for the week (among others). We chat about setting up a hydration & nutrition plan early, like 22 weeks before the event early. I ask they start thinking about the products they are going to use or want to try and use, then we start training them. Sports Nutritionist Coach Elizabeth over at INPYN recommends a minimum 5 training session however, ideally 10+ is better. 5 session is about the time to truly find out if your system can handle the plan you have.
How do I train/practice my hydration & nutrition plan? Great question! On your long runs or brick sessions is the perfect opportunity and these sessions are typically longer in duration.
TRAINING & FITNESS TIPS
Now that the holidays are behind us and the new year is in front of us, it's a good opportunity to get things back in line! If you took the time to regenerate, visit with friends and family, or just time off from training, ease back into your training. Often we as athletes tend to just pick up where we left off, this may not be the best way to start up again. If you have taken two, three, or more weeks off, you should ease back into the training. This will help with lowering the risk of injury and keep the enjoyment high. Start out with a few foundation runs per week of short duration, 20-30 minutes and give yourself permission to run/walk the session if need be. I also recommend doing this a few weeks prior to the start of your training program or prepare to train program. There several of you here that will be running the Sinister 7 Ultra, you have a few weeks to get yourself ready to train if you are doing the 22 week program. My 1:1 athletes have already started their prepare to train programs, non coached community members, have you? Lets make 2025 the year to crush goals and set those PB's (personal bests)!!!
